The primary way to provide safe and healthy working conditions is to eliminate hazards,
and so make unnecessary the use of PPEs. The application of PPE basically is the last
solution and its use reduces the risks to an acceptable level, while the side effects range
from nothing (e. g. footwear) to serious load (lead vest). The application of ergonomic
principles in design and selection of PPE helps to find the proper balance between
security and usability.
